Scale Chromatic	Exemplary The student plays each note accurately, and covers the full range of his/her instrument. Nice flowing tempo	Proficient The student plays accurately, missing 1 or 2 notes, covers the full range of his/her instrument	Developing The student misses several notes, plays much of the range of his/her instrument	Beginning The student misses many notes, plays a small range of the instrument
Tone	Exemplary The student plays with a full, rich, characteristic tone on all registers of the instrument	Proficient The student plays with a characteristic tone	Developing The student exhibits some flaws in production, ie thin tone, or forced sound	Beginning The student exhibits many production flaws, and is not characteristic of the instrument
Style/Articulation	Exemplary The student plays all appropriate style/articulation accurately	Proficient The student plays few innaccurate	Developing The student plays many inaccurately	Beginning The student plays numerous inaccurate pitches
