EXEMPLARY

Mechanics look like the overhead clear or underhand clear.
Contact is made above the head or close to it
Gentle "push" of the shuttle lands it close to the net and in front of the service line (drop shot zone)
Gentle follow through
PROFICIENT

Mechanics look like the overhead clear or underhand clear.
Contact is made close to the head or above it
Hard "push" of the shuttle lands it over the net and in front of the short service line (drop shot zone)
Gentle follow through.
DEVELOPING

Mechanics of the overhead or underhand clear are evident
Contact is made close to head
Racket speed is too fast for a "push" over the net therefore the shuttle travels too far into the opponent's court.
BEGINNING

Mechanics are not similar to the clear
Contact is made at head level, hard "push" of the shuttle over the net lands it well behind the short service line
Follow through stops at contact.
