They are not as obvious or clear throughout the story on the first read or need to be pointed out.	Advanced Story could be written by Poe himself. Contains many of the elements discussed in class that are obvious throughout the story.
Ideas and Content	Inadequate A story is attempted, but is unsuccessful. Important factors that make a story work are missing, and the story is difficult to read. It is memorable, but for the wrong reasons.	Developing Creates a story that lacks details and entertainment value. Character and conflict are unclear. The story is not memorable.	Proficient Creates an entertaining, somewhat detailed story that is original. Character and conflict are evident, but sometimes don't seem to be the focus. The story is memorable. Character(s)	Inadequate Character is minimally developed. Little is known about them and we don't feel connected to them at all.	Developing Character development is attempted, but lacking. Some pieces of a personality are present, so we know the character somewhat, but big pieces are missing.	Proficient Character development is well done, but could use improvement. Pieces are missing that will help us connect with and get to know the character more.	Advanced Character is very well developed. We feel very connected to the character, and know many details about them that are revealed through their actions, thoughts, words, narration, etc.

Proficient Story mostly makes sense, but there are moment of confusion when moving from beginning to middle to end.	Advanced Maintains a focused sequence of events with an inviting beginning and a fantastic conclusion.
