Poetry Portfolio

Points: Title Page, 10 ; Table of Contents, 20 ; 10 poems, 100 ; Theme of the Portfolio, 40 ; and a Glossary of Poetic Devices, 20 . Images need to accompany each poem type and have to be 50% clip art and 50% original drawings or graphic designs. The poems must be a variety and have to include all of the following types: limerick; ode; acrostics; concrete; echo verse; diamante; haiku; kennings poem; "I Am" and free verse . The poems must have at least 3 poetic devices in each.

Originality	Minimal Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal, or unoriginal.	Basic The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.	Proficient Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.	Advanced Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into the words chosen and conveyed ideas and emotions in an innovative manner.
Literary Devices	Minimal The poems did not include any literary devices such as imagery, metaphor, or rhyming pattern.	Basic The poems have some literary devices.	Proficient The poems have 3 literary devices which demonstrate creativity.	Advanced The poems demonstrate varied and appropriate application of at least 3 literary devices.
Requirements	Minimal 90% of the portfolio does not meet the criteria required for the project.	Basic The portfolio is missing most of the required content, or the student didn't follow the required format.	Proficient The portfolio is missing 1-2 of the required content or format.	Advanced The portfolio meets 100% of the required content and format including an analysis of an existing poem.
Attractiveness	Minimal The poems and portfolio are messy or disorganized. Images are not related and do not enhance the project.	Basic The poems and portfolio show some thoughtfulness in their presentation. Images were not related, but were used to enhance the presentation of the project.	Proficient The poems and portfolio are attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness; the overall presentation is good.	Advanced The portfolio is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. All images used are related to the poems and enhance the overall presentation of the portfolio.
Grammar & Punctuation	Minimal There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Basic The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Proficient Some spelling, diction or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.	Advanced Proper use of modern English spelling, diction, and grammar are employed consistently throughout portfolio.
