Vivid Language Poem 
Students will write a free-verse poem containing sensory details, interesting word choices, formatting and punctuation that helps the reader understand the purpose and meaning of the poem.

Level Four

Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.

Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.
Level Two

The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed. This is evident in the poet's redundancy or use of cliches.
Level One

Poem appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas are impersonal or unoriginal.
Form/Formatting

Level Four

Poem is complete and follows its intended form. Strong evidence of all syntax, imagery, figurative language and visual space. No sign it is written as prose.
Level Three

Poem is mostly written in the proper forms. Some evidence of syntax, imagery, figurative language, and visual space. No sign of the poem written as prose.
Level Two

Poem is somewhat written in the proper forms, while others stray significantly or are written as prose. There is a lack of the use of syntax, imagery, figurative language and visual space.

The poem contains some use of of the other basics. No use of cliches. It still follows the rules for a free verse poem.
Level Two

The poem lacks the use of the other basics which could enhance the meaning of the poem. Cliches are used. Some parts do not follow the criteria for a free verse poem.
Level One

The poem lacks the use of all of the basics which were needed to enhance the meaning of the poem. Too many cliches are used. The free verse style is not clearly event.
