Prepared for Discussion	Below Basic Not prepared well for discussion; forgets book, questions, or fails to answer reading questions, etc...	Basic Prepared for discussion with appropriate basic materials, but may be missing some of the required reading or questions to have a successful discussion.	Proficient Prepared for discussion with all appropriate materials including book and questions; ready to have a successful discussion	Advanced Wonderfully prepared for discussion with all appropriate materials including book and questions; ready to have a successful discussion.
Contribution to Discussion	Below Basic Rarely contributes to discussion or contribution to discussion is off topic or seems to be made up	Basic Contributes to discussions occasionally or when prompted; contributions are related to the novel, but mainly surface-level topics without very much depth.	Proficient Contributes to discussions often; contributions are related to the novel, shows understanding of character development, plot, predictions, and connections; helps to keep discussion going	Advanced Contributes to discussions often and effectively; contributions are enlightening, shows deep understanding of character development, plot, predictions, and connections
