Student uses vivid details to identify and describe the main character(s) and supporting characters that are important to the story based on evidence (thoughts, words and actions) found in the text.
Major event

1 - Beginning

Student attempts to identify a major event.
2 - Developing

Student gives some details about the event but leaves out key points.
Uses little evidence from the story.
3 - Proficient

Student identifies key elements from the story
based on evidence found in the story.
4 - Skilled

Student uses vivid details to describe all the key elements from the major event based on evidence found in the story.
