BEGINNING STAGE • Limited language comprehension. • One or two word responses. • Comprehends more (clarifies using Italian). • Uses the language when asked (repeats the word/phrases). • Points to item in picture when asked in English; makes a few mistakes.	DEVELOPING STAGE • Increased language comprehension. • Rarely needs to clarify instructions in mother tongue language. • Uses simple phrases e.g. Today it is raining; I like to eat strawberries. • Repeats words or phrases with correct pronunciation. • Can match words that rhyme • Points correctly to item in picture when asked in English.
