Poor

Does not write anything in their journal today or sites a completely inaccurate main idea and supporting details.
Fair

Get the main idea correct and sites at least one correct supporting detail.
Good

Writes a correct main idea and three correct supporting details.
Verbally identifies the problem.

When called on in class, can identify the current problem in the book.

Poor

Does not offer any answer, or sites something that is not a problem at all.
Fair

Sites a problem the character faces, even if from an earlier chapter, or that affects a different character, or is a problem the student foresees.
Good

Sites the current problem the character is facing, that the teacher has identified.
Make a prediction.

The student write's a logical prediction for what will happen next in the book.

Poor

Does not write a prediction at all, or write something completely different like a description or a list of events.

Writes a prediction but it doesn't make logical sense in the story.
