Tone (Word Choice)	4- Outstanding Tone is professional, polite, respectful, and firm.	3- Good Tone is mostly professional but may not be firm or professional in some areas.	2- Fair Tone is too conversational or casual in several places.	1- Poor Tone is casual and conversational throughout the letter.
Organization	4- Outstanding Ideas are expressed clearly throughout the letter	3- Good Ideas are expressed in a fairly clear manner, but there may be confusion in some areas.	2- Fair Ideas are somewhat organized, but it takes more than one reading to determine the letter's purpose.	1- Poor The letter seems to be a collection of unrelated sentences. It is difficult to determine the letter's purpose.
Conventions	4- Outstanding The writer makes no errors in capitalization, punctuation, or spelling.	3- Good The writer makes 1-2 errors in capitalization, punctuation, or spelling.	2- Fair The writer makes 3-4 errors in capitalization, punctuation, or spelling.	1- Poor The writer makes 5 or more errors in capitalization, punctuation, or spelling.
