The student slouches, looks uncomfortable and makes no effective contact with the audience at all. Tension and nervousness is obvious.
Clarity and Expression

Excellent

The student speaks clearly, distinctly, and with Recites loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.
Good

The student speaks clearly and distinctly. The emotion conveyed did not always fit the content, the emphasis wasuneven.
Fair

The student speaks clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet. Or the emotion it conveyed often did not fit the content.
Weak

The student does not speak clearly, mispronounces words and is inaudible to the audience. Spoken in monotone.
Pausing and Pacing

Excellent

The student uses pauses and pace effectively to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the speech.
Good

The students uses some pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the speech.
Fair

Pauses and pacing were not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. Pauses at ends of lines rather than at punctuation marks. Delivery is awkward.
Weak

Pauses were not intentionally used. Delivery is either too quick or too slow. Reads words with no logical grouping.
Inflection

Excellent

The student uses inflection,appropriate and varied pitch and tone modulation, to emphasize word or phrases of the speech and enhance persuasion.
Good

The student uses some inflection for emphasis. Some minor lapses in pitch, tone and volume did not fit the content. More vocal emphasis was required.
Fair

The student uses very little inflection, or uses it ineffectively. Enhancement of phrases is not acheived.
Weak

Inflection was not intentionally used. No voice emphasis is noticeable throughout the delivery.
