Thesis or Topic Sentence	Not Quite There Yet! Briefly, but incompletely indicates the work being addressed and the author's position	Developing Thesis doesn't clearly indicate the position of the author of the work or the author of the reaction.	Strong Thesis clearly states the author, title of the work, author's position, and an indication of your reaction to the work.
Reaction	Not Quite There Yet! Your reaction is unclear; it is hard to tell what you think of the work.	Developing You have explained your reaction to the author's position and work, but it is primarily an unsubstantiated opinion.	Strong You have indicated what you thought of the author's work and support your ideas with examples with anecdotal evidence from personal experience as well as references made to the text.
Summary	Not Quite There Yet! Sounds like it's copied from the back of the book...	Developing Summary is appropriate length, but doesn't choose words carefully enough to expose the heart of the work's purpose, theme, plot or characters.	Strong Summary briefly refers to primary theme, plot, and characters without giving too much detail. No more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the entire paper is used to summarize. Briefer is better!
