iRubric: 11th Grade Argumentative Research Paper rubric

Title is heuristical and functional; its answer is the thesis statement.

Thesis statement is concise and contains an assertion + three points. It is written accurately and is purposeful, and it is positioned as the last sentence in the introduction.

Paragraphs begin with a topic sentence that restates or continues a point from the thesis; all paragraphs include quotes and paraphrases that support your argument. Each paragraph ends with a clincher sentence.

All counterargumental remarks are contained in the counterargument and nowhere else in the paper, it is one paragraph in length. It begins with an effective signal phrase, prefaced with "Some think" in some form. May or may not come from research.

Begins with a restatement of the thesis statement in different words, it contains no new information, it contains no research, it contains a consequence, and it ends with a clincher that is a send-off or a call to action.

Spelling, punctuation, grammar, paragraphing, etc. do not hinder comprehension

No extra line breaks between PPs, PPs are indented, paper length reaches the 5th page, no space is wasted, font size is appropriate.
