Geometic Proofs of Similar Triangles
Students present formal and informal arguments as to whether two triangles are similar. Students practice finding lengths of corresponding sides of similar triangles using math tools and geometry theorems

25 pts

Students will set-up ratios to determine if two triangles have a dilated relationship

Below Standards

Identifying the corresponding sides has been computed incorrectly Determining the set-up of the correct ratio.
Approaching Standards

Most of the elements are present in the graph.
Math tools were used and the scale of measure is incorrect.
Meeting Standards

All graphs are adequate, clean and neat.
Exceeding Standards

All constructed figures are clean aand neat
Use of a Protractor to measure ang
20 pts

Students can demonstrate that they can use a protractor to determine the correct angle and record the measures of triangles

Below Standards

Measurement using a protractor is lacking by 7 points or more for each angle. The length of each side is calculating incorrectly due to an error in determining the distance of two points.
Approaching Standards

Student can mention the equivalent ratios for side lengths, but fail to discuss the measure of an angle.
Meeting Standards

Students realize hat dilated figures have equivalent ratios.
Exceeding Standards

All criteria of the task has been met. The graph is neat, clean, and is a perfect learning toool to visualize similarity
Labeling Figures
20 pts

Students will place all the appropriate labels and evaluate ratios to arrive at a scale factor that supports dilation and FTS, congruency and similarity.

Below Standards

Students fail to mention a relationship between the two figures that is proportional and similar in measure
Approaching Standards

Students understand the criteria and logical reasoning behind placing labels on diagrams but omits at least two or more labels and or geometry symbols.
Meeting Standards

The written explanation and ratios written to prove similarity are clear and concise and demonstrate knowledge of dilation.
Exceeding Standards

The student has demonstrated that their knowledge exceeds all the elements in the task.
Writing Proof and Summary
35 pts

Students will write about relationships that prove that two triangles are dilate at a Center. Students will use all the vocabulary terms to prove A-A criterion and S-S-S theorem proof to justify arguments.

Below Standards

Analysis lacks an introduction and an appropriate approach that leads to a conclusive theory. Use of Vocabulary is not sufficient to support mastery of the language.
Approaching Standards

Written Analysis is adequate but is missing important facts that allow the student to make the connections.
Meeting Standards

Analytical writing is complete and concise and all math connections lead to supporting details to demonstrate a thorough understanding of similarity , dilation and proofs.
Exceeding Standards

Analytical writing is complete and concise and all math connections lead to supporting details to demonstrate a thorough understanding of similarity , dilation and proofs. An additional example is provided in contrast of
