First Grade Handwriting This rubric can be used to assess student handwriting in many different assignments.
	Weak "W" 60-69% 1 pts	Poor "S-" 70-75% 2 pts	Fair "S" 76-84% 3 pts	Good "S+" 85-89% 4 pts	Outstanding "O" 90-100% 5 pts
Line Usage How well are the students using their writing lines?	Weak Many errors in line usage.	Poor Some errors in line usage.	Fair Few errors using lines correctly.	Good Uses lines correctly most of the time.	Outstanding Always uses lines correctly.
Spacing How well are students spacing their letters and/or words?	Weak Many errors in spacing.	Poor Some errors in spacing.	Fair Few errors using spacing correctly.	Good Uses proper spacing most of the time.	Outstanding Always uses proper spacing.
Letter Formation How well are students forming their letters correctly?	Weak Many errors in letter formation. Incorrect letter formations.	Poor Some errors in letter formation.
