Respectful of others 1 pts Students will be respectful to others as they are reading silently	Good Student sits quietly reading to their self or with a whisper reader. If the student needs to get a new book, it is done quietly without disrupting others around them.	Fair Student is sitting quietly most of the time. The teacher has to ask the student 2-3 times to remember to be quiet. If the student needed a book, it disrupted several friends.	Needs Improvement Student is not able to sit quietly without constant reminders. The student is disruptive and needs to move to stay focused on reading.
Identify story elements 1 pts The student will be able to identify at least 1 story element when finished reading and complete assigned work.	Good Student is able to identify a story element (main character, setting, problem, solution or lesson) with great detail. The student might even make a connection to the story. Student completes ALL work assigned.	Fair The student is able to give a basic description of a story element (main character, setting, problem, solution, or lesson). THe student might make a story connection. Student completes MOST of the work assigned.	Needs Improvement The student is not able to identify a story element from their silent reading book. No connections were made. Student completes SOME of the work assigned.
Actively reading 1 pts Student is reading the entire silent reading period	Good The student is able to read the entire period quietly.	Fair The student is reading most of the time period quietly.	Needs Improvement The student is unable to focus and read during the time period quietly.
