Meaning and Originality 30 points	Exceeding Standards Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into his or her words and uniquely conveyed his or her ideas and emotions.	Meeting Standards Poems are thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.	Approaching Standards Most of the poem is creative, but appears to be rushed. This is evident in the poet's redundancy or use of cliches.	Below Standards Poems appear to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas are unoriginal.
Sensory Details 25 points	Exceeding Standards Vivid, detailed images and intensely felt emotion make the poems come alive.	Meeting Standards Clear sensory images are used to portray ideas or emotions.	Approaching Standards Some use of image, idea, or emotion	Below Standards Difficult to visualize image or emotion.
Form and length requirement 10 points	Exceeding Standards Three to five poems are complete and follow their intended form. Author delivers a minimum of 60 lines	Meeting Standards The poems are written in their proper forms with a few mistakes. Meeting Standards Poems and/or author's note demonstrate a fair understanding and use of a variety of poetic devices (alliteration, assonance, consonance, metaphor, meter, onomatopoeia, personification, point of view, repetition, rhyme, simile, stanza, etc.).	Approaching Standards Poems use several poetic devices repetitively but do not demonstrate a broad understanding of their use in poetry.	Below Standards Poems show little evidence or understanding of use of poetic devices.
