Short Answer Responses in Language Arts 
This writing rubric is used in a 3rd grade class. This rubric is used to assess students' responses to test items questions requiring a short answer response. This writing rubric is used in all academic subjects.

The question was partially answered.
Good

The all parts of the question was answered.
Excellent

All parts of the question was answered. Sentences have great word choice. Facts and knowledge and details are evident.
Grammar

Correct placement on page, written in paragraph form, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization are used.

Poor

Numerous errors in all grammar conventions.
Fair

Some errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation interfere with the overall response.
Good

1-2 errors occur in spelling, grammar, or punctuation, but they do not affect the overall response.
Excellent

No errors occur in spelling, no run ons, or punctuation errors.
Used Citation

Student used textual citation in the answer.

Poor

Did not cite information in answer.
Fair

Wrote incomplete citation in a simple sentence.
Good

Wrote complete citation in a simple sentence. The citation may or may not flow with the paragraph
Excellent

Wrote a complete citiation so it flowed as part of the paragraph.
