5-7 appropriate and clearly described ingredients and measurements are listed in the order in which they appear in the recipe instructions.
Level 3

8 ingredients are listed, but measurements may be missing, the description may be unclear, or the ingredients may not be related to spring or might not be listed in the order they appear in the recipe instructions.

8 creative, appropriate, and clearly described ingredients related to spring and measurements are listed in the order in which they appear in the recipe instructions.
Instructions/Organization

Level 1

Recipe lacks details and does not have a logical sequence. One or more steps have omitted. Few, or no, transitional words are used.
Level 2

One or more steps were unclear or may have been out of order, or not all ingredients are included in the instructions. This causes some confusion to the reader.
Level 3

Steps are presented clearly and in a logical order. Some transitional words and phrases are used. Perhaps not all ingredients were used.
Level 4

Sufficient detailed steps using all ingredients are presented in a logical sequence and are easy to follow. Use of time/order words help the reader follow the procedure.
Word Choice

Level 1

There are no kitchen related nouns, strong verbs, or adverbs.
Level 2

2-4 kitchen nouns, strong verbs, or adverbs were used.

4-6 kitchen nouns, strong verbs, or adverbs were used.
Level 4

Almost every listed ingredient or sentence includes a kitchen noun, strong verb, or adverb providing the reader with specific information about how, when, where, or to what degree a task is to be performed.
Creativity

Level 1

Writer did not create a recipe that met minimum expectations for creativity and thoughtfulness.
Level 2

Writer demonstrated very minimal creativity and thoughtfulness in the development of recipe.
Level 3

Writer demonstrated creativity and thoughtfulness in choice of ingredients and development of a recipe.
Level 4

Creativity is evident! The writer has done a beautiful job of choosing ingredients and creating a clever recipe.
Conventions

Level 1

Many errors in spelling, capitalization, or punctuation indicating the writer did not use available resources.
Level 2

Mistakes using end marks or capitals as well as spelling mistakes make the recipe difficult to read or understand.
Level 3

Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are mostly correct. The errors do not distract from the enjoyment of reading.
Level 4

No mistakes in punctuation, capitalization, or spelling. Careful proofreading and use of resources in are evident.
