This rubric assesses your ability to paraphrase, partially quote, and fully quote another author in your writing with proper citation. You will want to avoid plagiarizing at all costs.

Writer needs to review the concept of plagiarism and properly citing references.

60 pts

Fair

Writer evidences idea of avoiding plagiarism but needs refinement.

80 pts

Good

Writer has accurately or appropriately used other author's work with proper citation.

100 pts

Paraphrasing
65 %

Writer will rewrite another author's work but will properly paraphrase and cite the reference.

Poor

Writer changed the word order and/or one or two words of the other author's work. Reference is either improperly or not cited.
Fair

Writer changed the word order and changed at least three words. Reference is properly cited.
Good

Writer paraphrases other author's work accurately, without losing meaning, using his/her own words and phrasing. Reference is properly cited.
Partial Quotation
25 %

Writer will write a sentence but incorporate a partial quote from another author with smooth transition and reference cited.

Poor

Writer has integrated the work of another author but it is not punctuated. References are either improperly cited or not cited.
Fair

Writer has integrated a partial quote by another author. Punctuation is used but incorrect; transition is awkward from/to original sentence. The reference is properly cited.
Good

Writer has integrated a partial quote by another author into his/her own original sentence. The reference is properly cited.
Full Quotation
10 %

Writer will write an original paragraph, integrating a complete sentence or sentences by another author, punctuate and cite properly.

Poor

Writer integrates full sentence or sentences into an original paragraph without punctuation or proper citation.
Fair

Writer integrates a full sentence or sentences from another writer into an original paragraph. Punctuation incorrect and/or reference is improperly cited.
Good

Writer integrates a full sentence or sentences from another writer into an original paragraph. The quotation is properly punctuated and cited.
