Use of multiple sounds	Excellent Students have included at least 5 and possibly more different sounds in the composition	Good Students have included at least 4 different sounds in the composition	Fair Students have included at least 3 different sounds in the composition	Poor Students have included only one or two sounds in the composition.
Notation	Excellent All sounds used have a place in the written composition and are notated in a way that makes sense to the student.	Good Most of the sounds used have a place in the written composition and are notated in a way that makes sense to the student.	Fair Some of the sounds used have a place in the written composition but there are sounds used that are not notated.	Poor Little or no notation are present.
Form	Excellent There is a clear and planned definite form to the piece.	Good There seems to be a plan for form but it is not well rehearsed.	Fair There is a very loose form if any and the piece seems somewhat made up on the spot.	Poor There is no apparent form evident and the whole piece appears completely random.
Variety	Excellent Students have included at least three tempo or character changes over their composition.	Good Students have included at least two tempo or character changes over their composition.	Fair Students have included one tempo or character change over their composition.	Poor Students have not included any tempo or character changes over their composition.
Performance	Excellent Student can perform the composition accurately and with certainty of their piece.	Good Student can perform the composition but make minor mistakes or appear to start and stop.	Fair Student performance of the composition is shaky and it seems like more practice would help.	Poor Student can not perform the composition.
