Poetry Portfolio

Students will compile five poems in a portfolio. The following types have to be included: alphabet, acrostic, diamante, cinquain and limerick. The poems need to be accompanied by a drawing depicting the subject of the poems. The poems need to follow the proper format. The portfolio must include a cover page with the topic 'Types of Poem,' an introduction (What is poetry for me?) and a conclusion (one paragraph on which was there favorite type of poem and reasons why)

Originality	Minimal Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal, or unoriginal.	Basic The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.	Proficient Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.	Advanced Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into the words chosen and conveyed ideas and emotions in an innovative manner.
Types of poems	Minimal Students wrote the poems, but did not follow any format of the poems.	Basic The student wrote the poems and did not follow the format of the poem correctly.	Proficient The student wrote five poem on each type of poem and somewhat followed the format.	Advanced The students wrote five poems on each type of poem and followed the correct format.
Requirements	Minimal 90% of the portfolio does not meet the criteria required for the project.	Basic The portfolio is missing most of the required content, or the student didn't follow the required format.	Proficient The portfolio is missing 1-2 of the required content or format.	Advanced The portfolio meets 100% of the required content and format.
Attractiveness	Minimal The poems and portfolio are messy or disorganized. Images are not related and do not enhance the project.	Basic The poems and portfolio show some thoughtfulness in their presentation. Images were not related, but were used to enhance the presentation of the project.	Proficient The poems and portfolio are attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness; the overall presentation is good.	Advanced The portfolio is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. All images used are related to the poems and enhance the overall presentation of the portfolio.
Grammar & Punctuation	Minimal There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Basic The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Proficient Some spelling, diction or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.	Advanced Proper use of modern English spelling, diction, and grammar are employed consistently throughout portfolio.
