Below is a chart that explains how I assign a grade for your participation in class. You should be prepared, following directions, actively listening to content, and working toward a generally understood goal/ end result.

Student is prepared for class with the required materials. Book, pencil, homework, classwork.
Follows direction

Poor

Student is not following written/oral directions.
Fair

Some awareness of general directions, but not fully following them.
Good

Student follows all directions for class, examples include labeling paper with required name and number, setting up problems, or using grade appropriate senntences, varying vocabulary, etc.
Active listening and responses

Poor

Cannot "check in" when called on, not in appropriate text, text not open, wrong page, talking, out of seat, playing in desk, talking to peer. Correct responses not necessary, listening is necessary.
Fair

Student is able to respond and/or is able to restate the question posed. Some listening is evident.
Good

Student is able to respond and is following the flow of class and working through content, guided practice, peer work, etc.
Center/stations/ assignment

Poor

Student is not working with peers. Student is not using tools/equipment appropriately.
Fair

Some cooperation in groups, but not full participation is evident. Some effort is evident.
Good

Student is using the center and station correctly and working on the new skill, concept, task.
