	Poor 3 pts	Fair 5 pts	Good 10 pts
Organization 10 pts	Poor The student has less then three paragraphs. There is no clear beginning, middle and ending.	Fair There were not 5 paragraphs, but the student had a beginning, middle, and an ending paragraph	Good The student completed five paragraphs. These paragraphs were organized with an introduction, body, and a conclusion.
Conventions 10 pts	Poor The student needs to spend more time revising. There are many grammatical or spelling errors.	Fair There are some obvious errors on the paper. The paper may need some work, but overall is acceptable.	Good The student took the time to revise. He/she considered others feedback. They put obvious effort into their final draft.
Voice 10 pts	Poor There is minimal use of character description. The reader does not have a clear sense of what the student’s special person is like.	Fair There is some use of character descriptions, story telling or another writing technique to describe their special person. The word choice chosen was average.	Good The student put effort into their writing to enhance their essay, such as: word choice, character descriptions, story telling, and the use of figurative language.
Overall Appearance 10 pts	Poor The overall appearance of the paper is far from final draft quality. The paper is not up to the student’s potential.	Fair The paper is not the students work. They quality is between what a rough draft would like and what a final draft looks like.	Good The paper is either typed or written in the student’s best handwriting. It is obvious that effort has been put forth to make it look like a final draft.
