Layout and Design

Below Standard

Poster lacks evidence of a design plan. Elements are not balanced on the poster. The work appears rushed and messy. It doesn't follow guidelines.
Meets Standard

Poster is not especially well designed and elements may not be balanced. May be due to lack of content, very small writing or drawing, or lack of color. Too much white space. It appears, though, that there was a minimal design plan.
Exemplary

Content is spaced so it is balanced. Color compliments the appearance. Writing is neat and legible. Illustrations enhance the poster's content.
Neatness

Below Standard

Poster is messy and may be gaudy due to color choice or design elements that lack neatness and appeal.
Meets Standard

Poster is neat for the most part. It may have a few things that blemish it, such as cross-outs, write- overs, or writing uphill or downhill
Exemplary

Poster is very neat. Writing is straight and there are no cross-outs or write-overs. The planning is evident.
Color and Text

Pencil NEVER used and left as primary drawing or lettering medium. Crayons are not used either. Must chose markers or colored pencils. Text should be in black. Part of speech may be highlighted by putting it in a different color.

Below Standard

Color choice may be overwhelming or underwhelming. Font style or size may not fit the poster design and size. Handwriting is not done in black and font choice may not work well. It detracts from the overall appearance. PENCIL has been used.
Meets Standard

Text written in black ink. Choice of font style and size could be better. Illustrations are colored neatly, but the choice of colors may detract. Handwriting may not be attractive.

PENCIL is never used.
Exemplary

Text written in black ink. Font style and size match the design for the poster. Color pallette is carefully chosen and the colors work well together. Overall an exceptionally attractive poster.
