A selection, performed by the student, will be assessed to indicate proficiency in note accuracy, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, and tone production.

Strong sense of pulse. All rhythms are performed accurately.
Dynamics/Articulations

No distinguishable difference between any of the dynamic markings.
Articulations are unnoticeable.
Fair
Some dynamics are observed, but most are missed or ignored. Very little dynamic contrast.
Articulations are attempted, but poorly defined.
Good
Several dynamics are observed with moments of dynamic contrast.
Articulations are performed spastically.
Excellent
Most of the dynamics are observed and demonstrated with a clear understanding.
Articulations are mostly correct.
Superior
All of the dynamics are observed, and there is a clear and distinguishable and artistic attempt to play with dynamic contrast.
Articulations are clear and concise.
Tone
Poor
Poor sound.
Needs more air.
Embouchure is incorrect.
Fair
Sound quality is inconsistent. Keep working towards more volume and consistency in tone.
Good
Tone is generally consistent. Continue to practice on volume and tone.
Excellent
Tone is developed. Good firm embouchure, use of air, volume and consistency.
Superior
Tone is excellent. Great use of embouchure control, air, volume and consistency.
