Spelling 20 %	Very High Standard Spelling is generally correct.	High Standard Spelling is usually correct on common words, but more difficult words are problematic.	Satisfactory Spelling errors are frequent and repeated.	Limited Spelling gets in the way of understanding the content.
Punctuation 20 %	Very High Standard The punctuation is accurate, even creative, and guides the reader through the text easily.	High Standard Punctuation is somewhat accurate, and shows a good command for readability, but not creativity.	Satisfactory Punctuation is random, and only the easiest rules show awareness of correct use.	Limited Lack of punctuation, or numerous errors in punctuation affect the readability of the text.
Grammar and usage 20 %	Very High Standard Grammar and usage are always correct and enhance the writing clarity and style.	High Standard Grammar and usage is good, but does not always add to the style of the writing.	Satisfactory Problems with grammar and usage are not serious enough to distort the meaning, but may not be correct or accurately applied all the time.	Limited Errors in grammar and usage are very noticable, frequent, and affect meaning.
Word Choice 20 %	Very High Standard Words are powerful and engaging - lively and striking	High Standard Words are accurate and clear in a general sense, attempts colourful language	Satisfactory Words and phrases are simplistic and funtional. (The first thing that popped into the writer's mind.)	Limited Words are nonspecific and distracting - language is used incorrectly, unimaginative, lifeless, and repetitive.
Sentence Fluency 20 %	Very High Standard Writing has an easy flow, with strong varied sentence structures. There are varied and purposeful sentence beginnings.	High Standard Sentences get the job done, constructed correctly, and sound. Sentence structures attempt to vary, as do sentence beginnings.	Satisfactory Sentence structures are simplistic and monotonous. Need complexity, but they do make sense.	Limited Sentences do not make sense, ramble, begin the same way, and endlessly connect to others.
