Proficient Introduces the topic that is being compared and contrasted, acknowledges and distinguishes the topic, and organizes the similarities and differences logically.	Approaching Introduces the topic that is being compared and contrasted and organizes the reasons and evidence clearly.	Beginning Introduces the topic but does so in an incoherent way.
Support/Evidence	Mastery All of the supporting details have strong evidence of the main idea proving it true.	Proficient All of the supporting details are included and written neatly.	Approaching Contains some details. The details are included but may be messy and difficult to read.	Beginning Contains no supporting details. or the details included do not support the main idea.
Conclusion	Mastery Provides a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the topic presented and is full of voice.	Proficient Provides a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the topic presented.	Approaching Provides a concluding statement or section, but it does not follow or support the topic presented.	Beginning Does not provide a concluding statement or section.
