Soap carving clearly depicts description of character, animal, or object from the novel. Carving is not blocky, but rounded off.

Soap carving somewhat depicts a character, object, or animal from the novel. Carving is slightly blocky.

Soap carving does not clearly represent anything from the novel. Carving is blocky.

Student carved details into soap such as texture (leaves, bark, feathers, clothes, facial features).

Student drew more than carved out details in soap.

Student drew or did not include any details in the soap.

Student used excellent soap carving skills such as subtracting small amounts of the soap.

Student shows some good soap carving skills. Too much soap may have been taken away from from image or not enough was chipped away.

Students took too much off of soap or not enough.
