Arguments	Concern 1 The student lists reasons but does not back up with facts or other support.	Emerging 2 The student uses some facts and/or quotes to support the argument, but they are not used the entire time. The facts are disputed and may not be accurate.	Proficient 3 Student generally uses facts and quotes well to support the argument. Facts are mostly well chosen.	Exemplary 4 The student bases all their arguments on well chosen, reliable facts and quotes that they have researched.
Organization	Concern 1 Paragraphs do not have a focus. Topic/concluding sentences are missing. SEE rule not or rarely followed.	Emerging 2 Paragraphs have some sense of focus, but sometimes off topic. Topic/concluding sentences sometimes there. SEE rule sometimes followed, but some problems.
