Sonata Composition & Performance
Students compose in the sonata form. Exposition includes 2 themes, 8 measures each. Theme 1 uses pentatonic scale (CDEFG), begins and ends on C. Theme 2 uses pentatonic scale again, but starts and stops on G and all F's are sharp (write in Key of G). Development uses diatonic scale, 16 measures long, starts and stops on C, and uses measures from themes 1 & 2. Recapitulation restates theme 1 and transposes theme 2 into the key of C. Student must choose 2 different sounds from the keyboard to play their composition.
