Story Content & Theme	Poor The story has no clear message or moral and is difficult to understand.	Fair The story has a message, but it is unclear or not fully developed. Some parts may be confusing.	Good The story has a clear message or moral. Most events make sense and are connected.	Excellent The story has a strong, clear message or moral. Events are well connected and easy for K-2 students to understand.
Age Appropriateness	Poor Story not appropriate for K-2	Fair Some language or ideas are too advanced	Good Language and ideas are appropriate with minor difficulty	Excellent Language, length, and ideas are prefect for young readers.
Writing Conventions	Poor Many errors that interfere with understanding.	Fair Frequent errors that make reading difficult.	Good Minor errors that do not affect understanding.	Excellent Few to no grammar or spelling errors.
