Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising.

Response to Prompt (Symbolism)	Effective Presents a clearly focused main idea that addresses prompt-- identifies and explains (through commentary) at least one symbol that exists in the text.	Adequate Uses the writing prompt to establish a main idea. dentifies and explains at least one symbol that exists in the text.	Marginal Addresses the prompt, though the focus may shift. Identifies the symbol but does not explain it clearly.	Below Marginal Attempts to address prompt but with little or no success in establishing a focus. Identifies symbol, does not explain.
