Retelling Rubric w/Inferences

This rubric will help teachers to assess students' retelling of a passage read, and image viewed, and includes effective inference construction using multiple sources. This assessment can be used to monitor comprehension and assess understanding.

Content	Excellent Student includes the main idea and at least 3 supporting details in his/her retelling.	Fair Student includes main idea and 1-2 supporting details in his/her retelling.	Poor Student doesn't include the main idea and no supporting details in his/her retelling.
Graphic Organizer	Excellent Student correctly infers central idea of the excerpt. Student retells all the important events in the sequence or order they happened.	Fair Student draws basic inference of the central idea of the excerpt. Student retells some events in the sequence or order they happened.	Poor Student does not draw basic inference of the central idea of the excerpt. Student retells most events in the sequence or order they happened.
Text Evidence	Excellent Student included at least three pieces of evidence taken directly from text to support their response.	Fair Student included at least two pieces of evidence taken directly from text to support their response.	Poor Student included at least one piece of evidence taken directly from text to support their response.
Inference/ Prediction	Excellent Student give his/her inference or prediction related to the poster/image and provides in-depth and detailed inference-based reasoning to support their response.
