Guitar-Cover Song Assessment 
The following rubric is a checklist for your guitar-cover song skills. During class you will be expected to play/sing a cover song of your groups' choosing with permission of instructor.You will be expected to play/sing with accuracy in melody, choral harmony, balance, steady tempo and rhythm and posture and expression.

All pitches are correct. song is recognizable and accurate as related to it's original recording.

The vocal line follows the melodic contour, but there are a few off-pitch parts, sometimes too heigh or too low. Student should work on the starting pitch to match pitch in the appropriate key.
Satisfactory

The vocal line follows the melodic contour, but there are many off-pitch parts, sometimes too high or too low. Student should work on the starting pitch to match pitch in the appropriate key.
Needs Improvement

Singing does not match the melody, however there are a few vocal parts on pitch. Student should work on melodic contour. Student should listen to the melody and follow the contour of it to match the pitch.
Unsatisfactory

Pitches are not clear. It sounds almost like speaking. Student should work on developing singing voice. Student should listen to their own voice more attentively and identify pitches that move up, down or stay the same. Use of a recorder could help.
Tempo/Rhythm

All rhythms were properly on the beat and of proper length. Group is in sync. and maintains an steady tempo.
Proficient

Tempo was off at times. Most of the rhythms were on the beat and of proper length, however there are strums that are too long or too short. Student should work on being more accurate with length of the rhythms, making sure that each rhythm get proper amount of beats.

Tempo was off through much of the song. Many of the rhythms were off the beat and not of proper length. Student should work on being more accurate with the tempo of the beat and rhythms by say the words while tapping the beat or playing the rhythms steadily.

Tempo is not accurate at all. Rhythm is not clear. Student should work on identifying the beats and the rhythms. Student should listen to the song and tap the beat and clap the rhythms.

Chord progessions are accurate and transitions are smooth through out.

Chords are accurate however..transitions on a few chords are not smooth. Students should work on particular transition problems by repeated transition from one chord to the next over and over.

Some chords are not accurate. Incorrect string and/or finger positions are being used. Transitions on some chords are not smooth. Student should review chord positions and repeatedly practice particular transitions that are problematic.

The balance between guitars and voice and guitars is appropriate. the voice can be heard above all and each guitar is heard equally.

The balance between the guitar and vocals is appropriate but the balance between the guitars is not. Students must rehearse and work on listening to each other and finding an equal volume.
Satisfactory

The balance between the voice and guitars is fair. The voice needs to be louder or the guitars softer. Students must rehearse and work to listen to each other more carefully.
Needs Improvement

The balance between the voice and guitars is not appropriate. The voice needs to be louder or the guitars softer. Students must rehearse and work to listen to each other more carefully.
Unsatisfactory

The balance between the voice and guitars and the guitars themselves is not appropriate. Students must rehearse and listen to each other to balance the guitars and then balance the voice making sure it can be heard above all else.
