Content	Absent The content is void of any significance or meaning.	Underdeveloped The content is evident but not well-developed or lacks consistency.	Satisfactory The content meets the minimum requirements but does not present any material that provokes further consideration.	Strong The content is strongly expressed. The student has demonstrated keen insights and observations that make for a thought-provoking read.	Exemplary The content is extremely effective and meets the highest level of instructor expectations.
Support	Absent The ideas are not supported with facts, logic, and reasoning.	Underdeveloped The ideas lack adequate support and render the work ineffective.	Satisfactory The student adequately supports her ideas but does not go beyond the instructor's minimum expectations.	Strong The student strongly supports her ideas through vivid examples and sound reasoning.	Exemplary The student's ideas receive thorough support throughout the entire offering.
Focus	Absent The student's work lacks any semblance of a coherent focus.	Underdeveloped The student does not maintain a consistent focus.	Satisfactory The student maintains a somewhat consistent focus but it doesn't permeate the entire work.	Strong The student maintains a consistent focus throughout the work.	Exemplary The student demonstrates a keen focus that illuminates important ideas and examples throughout the work.
Clarity	Absent The student's work is unclear to the point of incomprehension.	Underdeveloped The student's work lacks clarity or clarity is only present in certain portions of the work.	Satisfactory The student's work is clear in most portions of the assignment.	Strong The student's work is very clear and its ideas are easy to comprehend.	Exemplary The student's work is impeccably clear and no inconsistencies or murkiness exists.
Creativity	Absent The student's work does not display a morsel of original thought or there is no attempt at creativity.	Underdeveloped The student's work offers only glimpses of originality and creativity.	Satisfactory The student's work employs an adequate amount of creativity but cannot be considered original.	Strong The student's work is creative throughout and is a fine example of creative thinking as it relates to this assignment.	Exemplary The student's work is groundbreaking and displays characteristics of an original thinker. Originality is unprecedented for this assignment.
