	Poor 2 pts	Fair 3 pts	Good 4 pts	Excellent 5 pts
Neatness and legibility	Poor Writing is messy and careless, but it can be read.	Fair Writing is legible but there are some crossouts and some words are hard to read.	Good Writing is generally neat and careful. Characters are easy to read.	Excellent Letter is flawlessly written and perfectly clear.
Grammar, Spelling	Poor Spelling is poor. Grammar mistakes in more than 5 sentences.	Fair Spelling errors do not interfere with comprehension. Grammar mistakes in 5 or fewer sentences.	Good Only 1 or 2 spelling or grammar mistakes. Grammar is basically perfect.	Excellent Zero spelling or grammatical mistakes.
Length	Poor Letter is only one or two sentences long	Fair Letter is 5-10 sentences in length	Good 10-15 sentences in length	Excellent Letter is 15-20 sentences in length
