Tone (Purpose)	Poor NO topic sentence.	Fair The topic sentence is present, but does not make the purpose clear.	Good Topic sentence states the purpose, but may not be totally connected with the rest of the paragraph.	Excellent Topic sentence clearly states the purpose, and is well-connected with the rest of the paragraph.
Organization (Pattern)	Poor No clear pattern. Points are absent and/or out of order.	Fair Point-by-point or block organization is somewhat clear, but one side is significantly more developed than the other.
