Mechanics/grammar	Exemplary (5) - - Evident that student read their response prior to submission to catch grammar and spelling errors -Included content vocabulary when appropriate	Accomplished (4) - Most grammar and spelling errors were corrected by rereading the response prior to submission. - Some content vocabulary was used.	Developing (3) Limited evidence of rereading prior to submission to correct spelling or grammar errors.	Beginning(2) - Response is hard to read or understand. - Has many errors in spelling and grammar.
Higher Order Thinking	Exemplary (5) - Responses show the student has put a great deal of thought into what he/she writes. - The ideas are original, complex and show thinking that is exploratory to integrated using examples as support.	Accomplished (4) - Entries show the writer is thinking deeply about his/her ideas and attempts to push toward more advanced levels of original and connected ideas.
