The clinical question(s) should be well formulated and delineated by group.

Poor

Clinical questions lack clinical relevance and/or are not presented cohesively as part of the pre, intra or post op care
Good

Question are clinically relevant and contains a well defined patient problem, intervention and outcome and are easily identified as part of the pre- intra or post op care of the patient .
Excellent

Questions are clinically relevant, organized by pre, intra and post op care include a comparison in many if not most cases
* note- comparison may not be relevant; award full credit in that instance
Organization of content and slides
15 pts

The bottom line of the articles reviewed, including negative results are integrated into the planned care and reflected on the slides

Poor

The slides are lacking in content or subtopics appear disjointed. The slides do not contain the questions, the literature cited and/or the results and conclusion for each topic
Good

There is a basic flow from one phase of care to the next, but not all sections are well organized. The basic content is generally present (question, citation, results, interpretation)
Excellent

The presentation goes from the specific questions asked to the literature reviewed and the conclusions drawn. Transitions tie components of care together
Validity of Evidence
15 pts

The designs of the studies, the results of the studies whether or not statistically significant or clinically significant are clearly articulated

Poor

Major sections of pertinent content have been omitted (e.g. study designs) e.g. the PICO question is not stated, the study design is not described and /or the results are not stated
Good

All major sections of the pertinent content are included, but not covered in as much depth, or as explicitly, as expected. In particular, the results are not described in relevant biostatistical terms ( Discussion of Forest Plots, p values, population differences etc)
Excellent

The appropriate content in consideration is covered in depth without being redundant. Precision of results is discussed (e.g. p values, Confidence Intervals) Significance is unquestionable.
Application to patient care
15 pts

A synthesis of ideas and hypothesis or research question

Poor

The synthesis of the care plan for the patient including preop- intraop and post op care are not summarized well and the clinician would have difficulty describing the elements of care reviewed.
Good

The synthesis of the evidence based plan of care for the patient through ALL PHASES lacks integration where possible (if prevention of infection is a theme in pre, intra and post op care those items are are defined as a theme)
Excellent

The overall care plan for the patient using an evidence based approach is summarized and delineated.
The clinician can easily discern the elements of the care plan and whether or not they are supported by the evidence
