Interpretation Concerning the presentation	Excellent Interpretation of poem shows original insight and reflects a persistent reading/pondering of the text.	Good Interpretation of poem shows much insight and reflects a substantial amount of time spent with the poem.	Fair Interpretation of poem has some depth and insight; reflects sufficient time spent with the poem.	Needs Work Interpretation of poem is superficial and/or faulty; shows only minimal insight and reflects insufficient time spent with the poem.
Understanding Concerning the presentation	Excellent Flawless understanding of uses of figurative language, poetic terms and literary elements in the poem.	Good Strong understanding of uses of figurative language, poetic terms and literary elements in the poem. Organization Concerning the Presentation	Excellent Presentation was very organized and very easy to follow. Transitions between group members were well planned and executed.	Good Presentation was fairly organized and fairly easy to follow. Transitions slightly discontinuous but did not take away greatly from the overall presentation.	Fair Presentation was not clearly organized. Transitions between members were jumpy or awkward.	Needs Work Presentation lacks organization. Poor transitions between group members. Presentation lacks order and very difficult to follow.
Teamwork/Participation Concerning the Presentation	Excellent The group worked very well with each other and the presentation was shared equally among the group members.	Good The group worked well with each other and communicated well. Some members participated slightly more than others.	Fair Group communicated relatively well with a few lapses in the presentation; some group members did not participate adequately.	Needs Work Group did not work well together. There was obvious miscommunication and lapses in the presentation.
Tone Concerning the performance of the chosen poem	Excellent Tone enhances the speaker's interpretation or analysis and actively engages the audience in the presentation.	Good Tone enhances the speakers's interpretation or analysis of the poem.	Fair Some attempt made to connect the attitude of the presenter to the theme of the poem.	Needs Work Tone was not appropriate for the subject matter or theme of the poem.
Engagement Concerning the performance of the chosen poem	Excellent Presenter(s) engage the listeners, all members of the audience can hear and understand the presenter(s) speech.	Good Presenters actively interact with the listeners. Most members of the audience are able to hear the presenter(s).	Fair Some attempts made at eye contact. Most listeners are able to hear the presenter(s).	Needs Work Presenter(s) read poem with little attempt at eye contact. Listeners in the back of the room may have difficulty hearing the presenter(s).
