Class Participation Grade Criteria
Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be evaluated. All students are expected to participate in class! Students should understand that their participation mark begins at 0 and then is built up through active participation. Students DO NOT automatically recieve a perfect participation mark at the beginning of the term and then "lose points" through non-participation.

Student is almost always unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT
Excellent
Student asks questions, participates in pair/group discussions and work. Student constructively discusses with partner/group without prompting. Student completes activity with no prompting or refocusing.
Good
Student asks questions, and participates in pair/group discussions and work. Student constructively discusses with partner/group with much prompting. Sometimes, student needs to be prompted to work on assignment.
Fair
Student rarely participates in class, struggles with pair/group discussions. Student sometimes argues with partner or group member, but can constructively discuss with partner/group when redirected. Often, student needs to be prompted to work on assignment.
Poor
Student never participates in class, does not participate in pair/group discussions. Argues with partner or group members. Student almost always needs to be prompted to work on assignment.
ATTITUDE
Excellent
Student always presents a respectful and positive attitude towards the course, their fellow students, and their instructor.
Good
Student usually presents a respectful and positive attitude towards the course, their fellow students, and their instructor.
Fair
Student sometimes presents a respectful and positive attitude towards the course, their fellow students, and their instructor.
Poor
Student never presents a respectful and/or positive attitude towards the course, their fellow students, and their instructor.
BEHAVIOR
Excellent
Student does not need to be reminded of class rules or expectations. Student never puts their head down, sleeps in class, or has their phone out of their bag. Student never talks or giggles with another student, disrupting class.
Good
Student does not usually need to be reminded of class expectations. Student sometimes puts their head down or sleeps in class, or sometimes has their phone out of their bag. Student sometimes talks or giggles with another student, disrupting class.
Fair
Student sometimes needs to be reminded of class expectations. Student often puts their head down or sleeps in class, or often has their phone out of their bag. Student often talks or giggles with another student, disrupting class.
Poor
Student needs to be reminded of class expectations often. Student often puts their head down or sleeps in class, or refuses to keep their phone in their bag. Student frequently talks or giggles with another student, disrupting class.
WORK ETHIC
Excellent
Student works the entire period (bell to bell) on assignments given, and never wastes time or works on material unrelated to the class.
Good
Student usually works most of the period (bell to bell) on assignments, and rarely wastes time or works on material unrelated to the class.
Fair
Student sometimes wastes time, does not work the entire period on assignments, and will often work on material unrelated to the class.

Student frequently wastes class time, does not work the entire class period, and often works on material unrelated to the class.
