Sanitation and set up:

Pre-service sanitation and set up completed, washed/sanitized hands

Beginner

Learner does not prepare tools and equipment needed prior to the service. Learner does not wash and sanitize hands before, during, or after service as required and is dependant upon others to tell them what to do.
Developing

Learner usually prepares tools and equipment needed prior to the service. Learner washes and sanitizes hands before, during and after services most of the time and is becoming aware of the need to do so.
Accomplished

Learner is always prepared to perform this service. They understand the importance of proper set up and they wash and sanitize their hands at the appropriate times when performing this service.
Prepare mannequin:

Hair is wet, tangles removed beginning in nape area, from ends to scalp using a color/detanle comb. Learner works in systematic manner completing detangling process.

Beginner

Learner does not wet hair properly. Hair is brushed when wet and procedure is not followed. Learner needs to be reminded often of the proper steps to remove tangles.
Developing

Learner has a good grasp of the concepts of wetting hair and removing tangles but sometimes needs to be reminded.
Accomplished

Learner has developed skills in wetting the hair and removing the tangles<BR>
in a systematic manner following the procedure listed.
Styling product:

Learner applies styling product in manner shown by instructor. Hair is combed in the direction of the setting pattern

Beginner

Learner does not use styling aids in the manner in which they were instructed, or neglects to use them at all. Hair is not combed in the manner described. Learner does not understand the concepts and is dependant upon others to complete this task.
Developing

Learner usually uses the proper products and applies them correctly. Hair is usually combed in the manner described but sometimes requires assistance.
Accomplished

Learner understands the importance of using and applying proper styling products and combing the hair in the manner described and does so consistently.
Roller bases:

Learner starts at front hairline, parts off section the length and width of roller and selects base according to the volume desired.

Beginner

Learner does not understand where to start the set, how to create bases and volume and is dependant upon others to complete this task.
Developing

Learner displays an understanding of where to start the set, how to create bases and volume and can work alone most of the time.
Accomplished

Learner consistently knows where to start the set, how to create bases and volume and works independantly.
Wrapping and securing rollers:

Hair for each roller is combed smooth from scalp to ends, placed flat on roller and rolled evenly to base. Rollers are clipped securely to the scalp.

Beginner

Hair is not combed smoothly from scalp to ends, it is bunched on the roller and/or the roller is not pinned properly in place. Learner is dependant upon others to complete this task.
Developing

Learner usually has hair combed smooth from scalp to ends. It is usually placed flat and smooth on the roller and most rollers are pinned properly to scalp.
Accomplished

Learner consistently combs hair smoothly, places it correctly on the roller and pins it securely to scalp hair at the base.
Completion:

Mannequin is placed under a pre-heated dryer. Post-service clean-up is completed.

Beginner

Learner does not pre-heat the dryer and clean up and sanitation is not carried out. Learner is dependant upon others to complete this task.
Developing

Learner usually pre-heats the dryer and cleans up and sanitation is usually completed.
Accomplished

Learner consistently pre-heats the dryer; Learner always cleans up and sanitizes after the service.
