This rubric will be used to grade your final historical fiction writing piece. To make sure to get full points, make sure that you have done all that the rubric asks for.

Historical Fiction Concepts Contains historical, researched facts with a bibliography or citation.	Level 1 You did not include any reference to historical time periods or events/OR your time periods and facts are incorrect.	Level 2 A time period or historical event is mentioned in your paper, but not connected to any other events or facts in your story. It is not evident that you understand the historical time period you talk about.	Level 3 The writing includes a true topic from history. Some facts are interwoven into your story and they are accurate to your time period. Your writing demonstrates that you have some knowledge of history.	Level 4 The writing includes a true topic from history. Facts are interwoven into your story and they are accurate to our time period. your writing demonstrates that you have knowledge of that time period.
Writing Clarity Has clear beginning, middle, and end.	Level 1 The main idea of the writing piece is unclear. There is not one problem and resolution. The writing is difficult to understand.	Level 2 Your writing has one main topic, but contains some information off topic. The writing is easy to read, but could use some revision.	Level 3 Your writing stays on topic and makes sense. It has a beginning, middle and end, where there is a problem and conclusion.	Level 4 Your writing stays on topic and makes sense. It has a definite beginning, middle and end, where there is a problem, solution and conclusion.
Editing/ Conventions Finding and fixing spelling and grammatical errors.	Level 1 There are more than 8 editing errors in your writing.	Level 2 Less than 8 grammatical or punctuation errors are present in your writing.	Level 3 Five or less grammatical and punctuation errors are present in your writing.	Level 4 Fewer than 3 grammatical and punctuation errors are present in your writing.
Voice and Tone Creating a believable character with a voice and true feelings.	Level 1 My writing is weak. It sounds like I have not found my own way to say things. I used 2nd or 3rd person so there may be not hints of a real person in my writing.	Level 2 My tone is alright, but my paper could have been written by anyone. I need to reveal more about how I think and feel about what I am experiencing.	Level 3 I sound like I am interested in the topic. My writing voice is appealing but may fade in and out.	Level 4 I use 1st person point of view. My voice sounds like a real person that has personality and shows how my character thinks and feels
