Pitches	Poor Student uses E & F. Pitches are not labeled.	Fair Student generally uses pitches G-D and labels all pitches.	Good Student uses only pitches G, A, B, C, and D. All pitches are labeled correctly.
Rhythm	Poor The rhythm patterns are inaccurate for 4 or more measures. The student does not use both half and quarter notes.	Fair Student generally uses the correct amount of beats in every measure using both quarter and half notes. 1-3 measures may have inaccurate rhythm patterns.	Good Student uses the correct amount of beats in every measure using both quarter notes and half notes.
Variety	Poor Student uses very little variety of rhythm patterns and pitches.	Fair Student uses a fair amount of variety of rhythm patterns and pitches.	Good Student uses great variety of rhythm patterns and pitches.
Stable Ending	Poor Student ends on an unstable pitch.	Fair Student ends on a stable pitch.	Good Student ends on the most stable note in the key signature using a half note.
Appearance	Poor The composition is sloppy. The stems may be missing. The noteheads may cross multiple notes.	Fair The composition is generally clear. There may be some stems missing.	Good Student notates composition neatly. The notes are written clearly with accurate noteheads and stems.
Performance	Poor Student does not practice compositions.	Fair Student's effort may fluctuate when playing compositions.	Good Student practices compositions with focus - playing accurate pitches and rhythms.
