The student showed little or no understanding of the punctuation skills learned this year. The writing was very difficult to read.

The student showed a developing understanding of the skills learned this year. These mistakes made the writing somewhat difficult to read.
Good

The student showed mastery of punctuation skills learned this year. The writing was easy to read.
Spelling

Requirement: spells most grade appropriate words with conventional spelling.

Poor

The student spelled some previously learned words correctly.
Fair

The student spelled most previously learned words correctly.
Good

The student spelled all previously learned words correctly.
Legibility

Requirement: write with legible lower/upper case letters and spaces between words.

Poor

Student wrote illegibly using a mixture of upper and lower case letters. Spaces between words are not evident.
Fair

The student wrote fairly legibly using lower case letters throughout most of the writing and used upper case letters only when approrpriate. Spaces between words are evident.
Good

The student wrote legibly using lower case letters throughout and upper case letters when appropriate. Spaces between words are evident.
