Question and Hypothesis
Non-Compliance
A question is not posed, and it is mostly unrelated to the topic.
The hypothesis does not make an appropriate prediction based on the assignment.
Undeveloped
A question is posed, but is mostly unrelated to the topic.
The hypothesis does not make an appropriate prediction based on the assignment.
Fair
A question related to the topic is posed, but vaguely. A prediction has been made, but is unclear and does not provide a reason for why it has been made.
Very Good
A question directly related to the topic has been posed, but could be more concise and provable. A clear prediction has been made, is related to the question and a basic reason why is given.
Excellent
The question and hypothesis are clearly linked and relate directly to the topic. The question is concise and able to be proven true or false. The prediction is clear and a strong reason has been stated backing it up.
Procedure
Non-Compliance
The basics of the planned experiment or project are mentioned, but are not in clear order.
Undeveloped
The basics of the planned experiment or project are mentioned with some form of order.
Fair
Some steps to be undertaken are mentioned. Some of the required supplies and equipment are listed.
Very Good
Almost all of the steps planned for the experiment are listed, in order. The steps are clear and direct. Most of the equipment is listed.
Excellent
A clear, well organized plan for conducting the experiment is presented. The steps are listed in order, using expressive and mathematical language. Equipment and supplies used are listed and described.
Observations
Non-Compliance
Experiment results are not mentioned. No calculations were provided. Little to no data was provided, or it is unrelated. Further predictions were mentioned but with no evidence.
Undeveloped
The end result of the experiment is presented fairly clearly. A few additional details are provided. The diagram is somewhat related to the experiment. Further predictions were attempted but no evidence of calculations were provided.
Fair
The end result of the experiment is presented fairly clearly. A few additional details are provided. The diagram is somewhat related to the experiment. Further predictions were attempted but there were more than 3 miscalculations.
Very Good
The end result of what the experiment proved is directly stated. Clear, concise notes identify most of the events during the experiment with some description. A related and well-organized diagram is provided. Further predictions were attempted but 1-2 miscalculations.
Excellent
The end result of what the experiment proved is directly stated. Clear, concise notes identify all of the events during the experiment with descriptions of how they happened. A related and well-organized, and labeled diagram is provided.
Further predictions were calculated and clear and precise.
Conclusion
Non-Compliance
No statement of how the experiment ended was not provided.
Undeveloped
A plain statement of how the experiment ended is provided.
Fair
An incomplete experiment summary and a plain statement of how the experiment ended is provided.
Very Good
A clear summary of the experiment is provided, a conclusion statement mentions whether the hypothesis proved true or false. Something learned through the experiment is mentioned.
Excellent
A complete summary of the experiment is provided, the conclusion statement comments on how the hypothesis was proven true or false. Something learned through the experiment is stated. Something the experiment made the student wonder about is discussed.
