Ideas

These are the thoughts put down on paper. These are the events that make up the main events and the theme.

Below Average

Little to no effort was made when brainstorming. The ideas are brief, vague, and impersonal. There are only 2-3 things that are meaningful to the narrative.
Average

The writer took a decent amount of time to conduct the narrative. There are more than 5 important and meaningful parts that contribute to the narrative. The ideas are well thought-out and elaborated on.
Above Average

The writer went above and beyond. There are more than 7 important and meaningful contributions to the narrative. The ideas are very thought out and explained in the text.
Organization

This is the way in which you organize your talking points. Is it logical? Do you jump from topic to topic without a transition?

Below Average

There is no clear beginning, middle, and end. The events are all over the narrative and there is no sign of logical ordering. There are no transitions from thought to thought. Narrative seems choppy.
Average

The beginning, middle, and end are notable; however, the transitions between the three pieces are choppy and unclear. It is difficult to tell when the narrative moves on to another point.
Above Average

The beginning, middle, and end are clear. The transitions are appropriate and lead into the next topic with ease.
Word Choice

These are the words you use to describe characters, events, setting, etc. Are the words you use 8th grade material? Are they very plain, simple?

Below Average

Words used are lazy. There are many repeated adjectives and verbs. Ex. "He was mean." "She was mad." "It was very hot".
Average

Words vary from time to time and the author put forth some effort to use 6th grade words. There are parts where the words are redundant, though.
Above Average

The adjectives and verbs are unique, thoughtful, and used appropriately. The author clearly tried to use a variety of word choice.
Eye Contact, Gestures and Posture

Do you connect with the audience? are you moving with purpose? Are you giving expression in your tone of voice?

Below Average

You stand in one place or move with no purpose(ie: rocking back and forth) You have little to no expression in your narrative. Your presentation lacks any personal presence.
Average

You are kind of engaged in your narrative, you grab your audiences' attention but cannot maintain it. You move or gesture, with little emphasis or purpose
Above Average

You are engaged in your narrative, drawing the audience in to listen and understand more about the story. You engage the audience.
Tone

This is the tone of the speech. Is the tone the same throughout? Is the tone appropriate? Is the tone unique to the author?

Below Average

The author made no attempt to make the speech his/her own. It is very standard and plain. There is little emotion.
Average

The writer uses some words that help the speech be unique to their style or overall ; however, the overall tone of the piece is rather plain and boring. There is not a lot of creativity behind the "feeling" of the narrative.
Above Average

It is clear who wrote the piece. The words are unique to the author and the personality of the author shines through.Your voice fluctuates to match the intensity and help verbally share the story's feelings.
Voice Control and Character Voice

Your voice volume and the unique voices you give to your characters.

Below Average

You speak at a low volume. difficult to hear the entire speech. Characters all share the "same" voice
Average

You speak at a level that most of the speech can be heard, but occasionally difficult to hear. Characters have unique voices but little to no effort is used.
Above Average

Your level can be heard clearly during all parts of the speech. Characters have unique voices and effort and practice was put into each one.
