Constructing Irrational Number Line The following standards are being assessed in this performance task. M8N1: Students will understand different representations of numbers including square roots, exponents, and scientific notation. M8G2:Students will understand and use the Pythagorean theorem.
	Excellent Student demonstrates above average level of proficiency by meeting all criteria outlined below. 4 pts	Good Student demonstrates average level of proficiency by meeting most of the criteria outlined below. 3 pts	Fair Student demonstrates below average level of proficiency by meeting a few of the criteria outlined below. 2 pts	Poor Student demonstrates no level of proficiency by meeting none of the criteria outlined below. 1 pts
Rational/Irrational Students are able to differentiate between rational and irrational numbers.	Excellent Student has correctly identified and labeled more than 10 values of both rational and irrational numbers to be placed on the number line.	Good Student has correctly identified and labeled 8-10 values of both rational and irrational numbers to be placed on the number line.	Fair Student has correctly identified and labeled 5-7 values of both rational and irrational numbers to be placed on the number line.	Poor Student has correctly identified and labeled less than 5 values of both rational and irrational numbers to be placed on the number line.
Parts of a Right Triangleq Students demonstrate knowledge of the appropriate parts of a right triangle.	Excellent Student has correctly drawn and labeled every part of the right triangle for each construction.	Good Student has correctly drawn and labeled every part of the right triangle for more than half of the constructions.	Fair Student has correctly drawn and labeled every part of the right triangle for less than half of the constructions.	Poor Student has correctly drawn and labeled every part of the right triangle for none of the constructions.
Pythagorean Theorem Students are able to demonstrate their knowledge of an appropriate use of Pythagorean Theorem.	Excellent Student correctly uses Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the missing side of all constructed right triangles. This is demonstrated through the correct formula, correctly substituted numbers, and corresponding correct answer.	Good Student correctly uses Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the missing side of more than half of the constructed right triangles. This is demonstrated through the correct formula, correctly substituted numbers, and corresponding correct answer.	Fair Student correctly uses Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the missing side of less than half of the constructed right triangles. This is demonstrated through the correct formula, correctly substituted numbers, and corresponding correct answer.	Poor Student correctly uses Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the missing side of none of the constructed right triangles. This is demonstrated through the correct formula, correctly substituted numbers, and corresponding correct answer.
Compare/Order Numbers Students demonstrate knowledge of ordering numbers on a number line.	Excellent Student correctly constructs a positive number line with all calculated rational and irrational numbers placed in order from least to greatest.	Good Student correctly constructs a positive number line with all calculated rational and irrational numbers placed in order from least to greatest. There are 1-2 numbers incorrectly ordered.	Fair Student correctly constructs a positive number line with all calculated rational and irrational numbers placed in order from least to greatest. There are 3-4 numbers incorrectly ordered.	Poor Student correctly constructs a positive number line with all calculated rational and irrational numbers placed in order from least to greatest. There are more than 4 numbers incorrectly ordered.
