Completion	Above Average Journal entry is completed with a paragraph of 5 complete sentences or more. A quality summary of the events of the passage is given.	Average Journal entry has less than 3-4 complete sentences in a paragraph. An adequate summary of the events of the passage is given.	Below Average Journal entry has 3 complete sentences or less. A poor summary is given.	Poor Journal response has not been completed at all.
Response Quality	Above Average Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic.	Average Responses are acceptably developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Below Average Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic.	Poor Response is critically underdeveloped and lacking in the key areas of basic English.
Connections	Above Average Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 75% of the time.	Average Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 50% of the time.	Below Average Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 25% of the time.
